This is a single release but made enough plays that it’s worth making a note of. Post-dubstep bass music, reminds me of the collaborations of The Bug and Warrior Queen. And another record building the bridge between Europe and Africa, this one stretching between the UK and Kenya.
Mostly straight up uptempo house with a few tracks having tech-house flavors, the latter ones are definitely more for me. The closing track (Kato) is probably the biggest smasher. Most tracks are totally dancefloor material, but it’s also a great pushing-pumping motivator record for work.
Probably my most replayed single track recently. I love the energy of the raw industrial punk. Funny that Kittie comes to mind when listening to this, who also had a track called Spit, although their song that comes to mind is Brackish.
This album got parked on my Play Later list for a while, then I gave up on it because I was never in the mood to give it a go. And today I restumbled upon it and I’m so happy I did. Ah, it got to me just perfectly today. There are these moments when a music hits me just in the right spot and that’s everything I want. It has that perfect balance of depressing and motivating that it could take me from that first mood to the latter.
What I like best about it is in part a few great melodic hooks, but much more importantly the vocals and lyrics. Jonas Renkse’s voice is the most wonderful rediscovery of today. Also, there are some songs (like Behind the Blood, The Winter of Our Passing, and Flicker) that sound like classics that I’ve heard a hundred times. I’m listening to the album the thrid time today right now, and I just don’t feel like changing to anything else. It is an amazing piece of progressive rock.
Subsea trip with thumping, soft dub techno and ethereal ambient. Good for chilling, brilliant for work.
On a sidenote: when will this album cover trend stop, I wonder… Photos of parts of stuff so that it looks disturbing. It may have started around Dumb Flesh, but I wouldn’t mind if it stopped.
Melodic modern metal (could be post-hardcore if you will), one of my new favorites alongside MOLYBARON. On this track I hear some influences from The Mars Volta in the best possible way. I’m hoping for an album to drop some time this year.
Galaxy trippin’ psychedelic space rock. There was quite a list of new-psychedelic albums that I’ve listened to lately and this one stuck with me for a little while now.

Mainstream pop is one of my least listened to genres of music, that is to say I probably only listen to less harsh noise than radio pop because in the grocery store and the gym they are less likely to have some Merzbow playing.
That said, this Dua Lipa album is my favorite pick in this area from the first half of 2020. Physical has the biggest hook and the Let’s Get Physical Work Out Video is just brilliant. The original one is nice, too, but aesthetically this complements the sound in a great way. (Also, giving this single a comeback with this second music video just before the release of the album was smart as hell.) And Good in Bed is just the most fun track of the lot.
Self-defiend as alternative, although I listen to this as pop music to listen to in the background. Probably that’s the fail in positioning: it can easily be too pop for an alternative listener but just weird enough not to be played on mainstream radio. However there’s the one hit wonder track (Tin King), which can make its way to all the commercials and TV series soundtracks to financially support the record.
Random light-hearted electronic pop hit, probably my most listened to while easing into the summer this year. Another one of those being one by Dua Lipa, but that’s for another post.
