Everybody Wants to Rule the World covers

After watching Mr. Robot’s S02E08 and heard Portia Doubleday sing Everybody Wants to Rule the World in a karaoke bar I got totally hooked on the tune and just couldn’t let it go from my head. And since the whole thing started with someone else singing the song and it was not the original Tears For Fears version, I started searching for even more renditions of this track.

This is how I came across the 2014 Spotify Landmark recording of the song with the original band just 30 years after and it’s an awesome video to watch, also the guys just totally kill it even 30 years later. This video is right here below, and then there are some more covers after it that I found interesting.

Kurt Rauffer: Star Wars Episode V homage title sequence

This is so truly amazing. Makes me think of the new concept of continuously releasing Star Wars spin-off movies like the upcoming Rogue One, and how great it would be if the SW universe expanded in a way that it allows for some new and unique styles for any of these side projects. So that anything like this homage trailer could be the real and actually used styles of any of the upcoming movies.

I don’t consider myself a Star Wars fan. I watch the movies every now and then, have some SW fun on 4th May, but mostly admire the universe, which expanded upon and after the original trilogy. I participated in Star Wars RPG way back as a child, read some great books placed in the SW universe, played some good video games, and just recently had serious fun with the X-Wing miniatures tabletop.

There is so much potential and the standard movies even with the currently running third set of movies capture so little of all that depth and vastness of the Star Wars universe. And allowing for more spin-off stylings like this fan-made trailer showcases could really blow the whole thing up and allow for even many more new and exciting angles to explore.

Max Richter – Sleep Remixes

Max Richter created a composition called Sleep, which is 8 hours long. There are a few occasions when it is played in its entirety live. Could be one beautiful experience to listen to it played all the way long. Anyhow there is a remixes album with the remixes of three segments making fifteen pieces altogether. It is just wonderful. Although I am always stuck at the first piece called Path 5 and its Mogwai and Digitonal remixes. Stunning, soothing, a cradle, a womb. I haven’t felt this way for an ambient song for a long time.

Guy Andrews – Our Spaces

Experimenting around electronics this album is heavy, atmospheric, deep, powerful. Has a certain world-creating feel to it like that of the Fuck Buttons, but with certain patches of softness, like a caring god touch the void with hands able to destroy yet also create tender lives.
