World music kind of thing. Italian traditional music from Salento mixed with North African and Turkish flavours, tuned to the voices of jazz, rock, folk, and in some cases soundtrack-like grandiose orchestrations. For me it resembles Dead Can Dance on quite a wide range from the medieval sounds to the Spiritchaser’s ethnic fusion. It is a very unique and interesting record.
Crazy P – Walk Dance Talk Sing
A totally usual and casual nu-jazz album, like it’s 2004, the high times of Dzihan & Kamien, Jazzanova, Herbert et al. And !K7 still lives this era by releasing such a record in 2015.
The Gaslamp Killer – The Gaslamp Killer Experience: Live in Los Angeles
The true example of why you listen to a live concert recording. On the one hand it brings the full atmosphere into your home, but also makes you weep because you weren’t there.
The Dale Cooper Quartet – Metamanoir
Broken slow dark jazz. Nicely orchestrated deepness. Bohren and Kilimanjaro comes to mind as similar, although this one has some Dead Can Dance and Portishead in the mix at certain points.
Hiatus Kaiyote – Tawk Tomahawk
Smooth jazzy, laid-back music for a Sunday afternoon chillin’. Also great album cover and band name. Their new album is out right now, but not yet available on Rdio and anyway this one is worth a mention on its own.
Elég szürreális zenére bukkantam Cosmik Connection néven. Philippe Garcia dobos és Gaël Horellou szaxofonos duójáról van szó, ami a jazzt és drum & bass-t ötvözi, de valami egészen különös módon. Ugyanis mindkét stílusból a szélsőségeket hozzák, így a skála végeiről kanyarodik egymásra a free jazzes improviáció, a száraz jungle és a dörmögő bassline. Közben pedig néha középtempóban kalandoznak egy-egy elektromos dub sound vagy triphop tempó erejéig.
Én a Grand Panache című albumukat hallgattam most, tudom ajánlani, könnyen elérhető darab, és vélhetően minden benne van, amit ezekről az arcokról tudni érdemes. Kedvenc track talán a Big Space, amiben a ‘90-es évek éjszaka autózós filmjeleneteinek esszenciája sűrűsödik össze.
