Hugo Massien – Metamorphosis

Bass-heavy slow to mid tempo electronic music. Genrewise it’s a mishmash: the highest percentage is probably house, but it’s changing every other track to dubstep, breakbeat, house, IDM, ambient. Good backdrop for work.

Octo Octa – She’s Calling EP

Breaks and house, focus changing from track to track, or within a track itself. It’s like a little kaleidoscope. (While tagging this post I’m amazed I haven’t had any Octo Octa releases here so far. I’m listening to basically all new releases from her.)

Jupiter Jax – No Such Thing

Half moody jazzy tunes, half mid-tempo mellow house beats, nice and relaxing. The title track and Moral Dilemmas are the peak points, the previous reminding me of Miles Davis’ electronic explorations.

Riton + Kah-Lo – Foreign Ororo

I recently got a batch of suggestions spread along the interesting-weird axis, and this one stuck with me. British dance beats (mostly house) with Nigerian hiphop female vocals. I have this strong feeling that I’m totally late to this party and hits like Fake ID and Ginger must have spinned their fair share in certain parties and radio shows that I totally missed apparently.

Oliver Schories – Paradigm

Mostly straight up uptempo house with a few tracks having tech-house flavors, the latter ones are definitely more for me. The closing track (Kato) is probably the biggest smasher. Most tracks are totally dancefloor material, but it’s also a great pushing-pumping motivator record for work.

Michael Mayer – Mantasy

Easy listening mid-tempo house and lazy chillout music, which doesn’t strive to be in the foreground. Good for work, a run while you want to think about stuff and not focus on the music, and Saturday afternoon garden parties with sunshine.

The Orb – Abolition of the Royal Familia

Ambient house, straight-up ambient, and dub-fused chill-out music, exactly something like made by The Orb. All sounds are coming from a happy place, it’s light-hearted, easy to listen, and high on delight, it just makes me happy. It’s hard to pick favorite tracks but right now I love the long soothing soundscape of Shape Shifters best with its city ambience and trumpet notes. Although I changed favorites quite a bit since this is my go-to record to listen to whenever I don’t have time or need to think twice for the past two monhts right from its very release. I’m quite amazed how Paterson can deliver such a great album after 30 years steady in the business.

It’s a bitch that sometimes I can least elaborate about my favorite music. There are certain stuff that you just have to listen to and feels mundane to write words. This is one of those.

Recondite – Dwell

Techno and house in its rhythms but with a slow tempo and with lots of atmospheric sounds. Beautiful music, too, in a blue and moody sense.

When you put on noise cancelling headphones and listen to this in the middle of a busy city it’s like a movie about a civilization in decay and the meaninglessness of everyday life. The scene when you’re watching them run around in their little useless lives and you already know but they don’t that their fraglie mudball planet is on an all-erasing collision course with a huge asteroid. Could be a soundtrack to Melancholia.

Peggy Gou – Moment EP

Awesome disco house. Among friends we’ve been talking about two parties that would be great to go to: banger but intelligent tech-house and a cool easy-going disco. Starry Night is exactly the kind of disco I’m wishing for.

Orlando Voorn – The Best of Orlando Voorn

It’s a mishmash of things around the house-electro-rave globe from a lifetime catalog. Two random notes. One: Playboy – A Paco Di Bango’s World goes to my hilarious house tracks playlist, right after Big Fat Head. Funny house is a thing, I’m slowly getting this. Two: Format – Solid Session is my favorite dancefloor anthem on this one, and it’s from 1991, gosh.
