Broken beat, drum and bass, hiphop, IDM, the common denominator is smoothness and a light heart. Like if it’s drum and bass then it’s liquid, if it’s hiphop then it’s soulful. These 26 minutes contain a whole summer’s many flavors in six tracks. It’s not a consistent record at all, more like a promo sampler for a festival, but there’s fun in all those tracks.
Nu:Tone and Hospital Records like it’s the turn of the millenium and we’re chillin’ to liquid drum and bass. Brings up so many memories from parties to friends. This album is a time trip for sure, but it also shows how great drum and bass is still done. I wonder though if this appeals to the current young generation or it’s just old people’s music.
Darkish drum and bass, medium tempo. Not for the dancefloor but for headphones. Could be sci-fi but I’d rather think of cityscapes than empty space.
Drum and bass, ambient, and (oddly) rave sounds in a blender. Kind of a strange mix but great for work.
I just finished the 2020 long player of Sub Focus and decided not to put it up here when this record followed and I thought, so this is the one that was meant to be. The same kind of accessible, easy to listen drum and bass electronic dance music but with just a little bit more sophistication and less sugarcoat. Although it’s still fluffy and light like a smokey Saturday afternoon. I feel so good that this is released by Ninja Tune: I could also say this is drum and bass through the Ninja’s lens, as in that being quality assurance.

I could swear I heard at least half of these tracks in the past decade. In the crossroads of “nothing new” and “sounds classic”. Anyhow, Stampede is something that’s new and instantly recognizable – soundtrack to a car chase in an action movie.
First got hooked on this one when I was looking for something with broken beats and jungle rhythms, and I was happy to find this record. But then there are quite some flavors of electronics piled up here, all pretty much good flavors.
