DARKSIDE – Spiral

First half of the record is amazing downtempo glitchy electronics with beautiful melodies and ethereal vocals. It shows both band members at their best, Dave Harrington and Nicolas Jarr sound like mixing up Apparat and Bonobo, especially on the more hook-heavy primary single track, The Limit. Then the second half of the record gradually goes into more indie influences, ambient jammings, and audibly auto-tuned vocals that I don’t appreciate. It’s a bummer but overall the album delivers some strong singles still.

A Darkside felét adó Dave Harringtonnak jött egy szóló EP-je júliusban, ami egy kétszámos ambient darab 20 percben. Érdekes anyag, a teljes játékidő alatt elég szép nagy ívet járnak be a trackek a field recordingsszerű zörejkavalkádtól a kellemes éteri muzsikáig. SoundCloudon meghallgatható az egész.

Amúgy mostanában belefutottam pár jó ambient megjelenésbe, gyorsan sorolva:

  • Lee Gamble Kuang EP-jén  három elég különböző számból az egyik ilyen,
  • Kubától jött egy Ambient Beaches nevű lemez, amit a címe elmesél,
  • nem stílusdefinitív ambient, de ugyanezen a tempón és világban mozog Mono/Polytól a Ra Rise egyszámos,
  • és Mndsgn első Stones Throw lemeze, a Yawn Zen is nevéhez hűen álmosítóan andalgós zene.
