Dredd (2012)

This was a huge surprise. I had it on my watchlist for a long time as a catch-up thing, like something I knew I should not miss, but had no actual expectations. I assumed it to be on the level of the Robocop remake (not great).

Now that I finally watched it, I’m blown away. Great directing, interesting visual style, actually good actors doing actually good acting, good music, absolutely no “but why did they do that” moments, and an absolutely top-notch cyberpunk depiction.

It felt like a DLC for the Cyberpunk 2077 game when you’re playing a cop and see the megacity and the run-down future from their point of view. I can actually see how this movie made it to the inspiration list of the game’s artists. (Okay, now I googled this, and yeah, it’s obviously there.)

Planetdamage – Relapse Protocol

Industrial electronics and beyond that goes through a wide range of styles from EBM through breaks to psytrance. It is like an amazing soundtrack to a cyberpunk videogame that I’d love to play. I’m sure Planetdamage would like to imagine people walking through neon-infused city nights while listening to it, but it’s a perfect companion for pushing work, too. The only downside is the vocal, which on the full length gets somewhat tedious because of it’s monotone sound, but since the Bandcamp release has the instrumental version included that’s what I have on replay.

Mr. Robot (S01E01)

Oh. My. God. Seriously. This pilot was just such an insanely powerful piece that I haven’t seen anything like for years on television. In all aspects there is. Cast, acting, story, non-cliché, characters, music, narrative, sounds, editing. Everything. This is a 10/10 start, and I just can’t wait for the second episode.

Edit: about 15 minutes passed since I watched the show and dug up all content about it online. It blows my mind with thoughts and inspiration. I love this feeling so much.
